Songs for My Dark Days
It has been quite a while since I have made a blog post!
School has proven to take most of my time, but with the quarter ending soon, I found the time to make a post, and this time away gave me an idea for one.
Since learning to adapt to an environment in quarantine and doing school online, I have had my fair share of days when I am down, depressed or riddled with anxiety. One way of coping with this is listening to music, so I thought I would share some of the songs that get me through my bad days, along with a playlist.
Enjoy! And happy holiday season!

1. Condemned to Silence- Trees of Eternity

Despite the dark titles of many of these songs, sometimes the melancholic melody of a song can help in coping with a rough day. This song from the short lived doom metal band is beautiful and haunting to listen to, the perfect soundtrack for when you are feeling down. Aleah Stanbridge's singing along with Mick Moss' is heartfelt and ethereal, and can temporarily put me in a different headspace.
2. Breaking Down- I Prevail

This is a song I can listen to any day, but the lyrics especially hit home whenever I am filled with anxiety. It perfectly explains the feeling one gets when they are "breaking down," feeling stuck and only thinking the worst. Hearing that someone else is going through what you are feeling is a great comfort.
3. Save Me- Lacuna Coil

Being that they are my favorite band, Lacuna Coil has many songs that can get me through a bad day. However, this particular song holds a special place in my heart, as it came out when I was really struggling mentally during my senior year. I felt particularly lost, and this song was my go to, with Cristina Scabbia's monologue really striking a chord in me.
4. Aeon's Embrace- Sirenia

I only recently got into Sirenia, specifically their albums with current vocalist Emmanuelle Zoldan, whose voice soars on this particular ballad. The piano lends to the melancholy, and the song is one that made me tear up the first time I heard it. It is always refreshing to hear a metal band put out a song that isn't really metal.
5. Fear of Impending Hell- Paradise Lost

Again another particular doom filled title, but the song is from a doom metal band. This genre especially produces songs that can resonate with anybody who faces dark times, and the slow melodies can fit with the mood. This band is one of my favorites, and this particular song really speaks to how afraid one can be when feeling down.
6. The Fighter- In This Moment

You ever hear a song that really makes you want to get up and do something? This particular ballad is one whose message is uplifting, and Maria Brink's vocals are raw and powerful. It is important to remember that we must fight through the bad things in life, and come out stronger in the end.
7. Once Upon a Nightmare- Epica

Whenever I listen to Epica, I always feel like I am in a movie, as the symphonies in their music is epic. This song feels like it should be over a scene where a character overcomes a great obstacle or has an epiphany of sorts. It is always uplifting to hear whenever I am having a bad day.
